Malcolm Mitchell of New England Patriots Out Four Weeks with Elbow Injury

Dr Pruzansky | August 24, 2016

Rookie wide receiver Malcolm Mitchell of the New England Patriots suffered an elbow injury in his first ever preseason game against the New Orleans Saints.

In the second quarter Mitchell caught an 8-yard pass and tried to evade a tackle and maintain his balance by putting his hand on the ground. However, his arm twisted awkwardly causing a dislocated elbow on his left arm.

He left the game immediately and Patriots medical staff believe that he’ll be out for at least four weeks.

The MRI on Mitchell’s elbow was clean, with only the dislocation and no elbow fractures or torn ligaments or tendons.

A four week recovery might allow him to be ready for the start of the regular season. Mitchell had been showing great promise in training camp and was the Patriots leading receiver in the game.

The most common type of elbow dislocation happens from a fall when playing sports. In simple, non complex injuries, the elbow can be relocated without surgery.
