Kienböck’s Disease is a condition of unknown cause in which blood supply to the lunate — a small bone in the hand near the center of the wrist—is cut off, resulting in spontaneous fracture or boney collapse.

Preliminary symptoms of the disease are difficult to distinguish from a sprained wrist, though X-rays, MRIs and CT scans can help identify the condition.

Surgical intervention is often used to restore blood flow with vascularized bone grafting. Other treatments include temporary wrist bone pinning and limited wrist arthrodesis.
