Triangular Fibrocartilage Complex Tears refer to tears in the ligament and cartilage structures that connect the wrist and forearm on the pinky side.
Falls on hyper-extended wrists during skiing, snowboarding, in-line skating, BMX, skateboarding (full pipes more than street courses), football or basketball, as well as age-related wear and tear, can lead to this condition, which manifests itself in pain, clicking, weakness or limited range of motion.
Conservative treatment includes rest, splinting, anti-inflammatory medication and occupational therapy. Arthroscopic surgery may be indicated in stubbornly persistent cases.
